Museum Sumatera Utara This museum of the North Sumatera province was built in 1954 and inaugurated in 1982, located on 51, HM.Joni street, phone 736 6792/735 2220. It has 6,500 exhibits, mainly traditional clothes, tools and cultural artifacts. It is one the better museums in Indonesia. It could have some better information in English, though, but English-speaking staff can help.

Museum Pangdam Bukit Barisan This military museum Pangdam Bukit Barisan opened in 1971. Old guns and cannons, used in the independence war and the rebelion of 1958 are on display. There are also paintings showing the struggle against the Dutch. The museum open from Monday - Friday and entrance is free, but donations are appreciated. Located on H.Zainul Arifin street. |
Museum Mini Tirtanadi This a one-room waterworks museum, next to the old water tower on Sisingamangaraja street. Old photos and old Dutch equipment are on display.Open from Monday - Friday. |
Rahmat International Wildlife Museum & Gallery
This is a well-kept private museum of its own kind. It displays 400 suffed animals, most of them shot by the owner. It is interesting if you like dead animals, it was established in 1999 and open from Tuesday - Sunday. The entrance is not free.
